In Loving Memory of Naomi Ruth Rothrock: Peanut Butter Fudge

This blog is dedicated to our great grandmother. Naomi "Ruth" Rothrock was born October 12th, 1914 and lived a very long and full life. Mother of 4, foster mother of 2, grand mother, great-grand mother and great-great grandmother to many, Grandma Ruth's home was always full of family, love, and the smell of wonderful food every Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. While the family tradition continues, we thought that the family would enjoy having her recipes available whenever they wished. Grandma was always gracious of heart and we figured she wouldn't mind if others stumbled onto these recipes and incorporated them into their own family traditions. The recipes are scanned so that you can get that feeling of being in grandma's kitchen. If you can't read or understand some of the pictures, let us know which ones and we will add a written description with the picture. Just remember, the secret to all of these recipes is LOVE.

Note: Oleo is an ingredient in a lot of these recipes. It just means margarine, butter, or vegetable shortening.

Peanut Butter Fudge - Patty Polley

PEANUT BUTTER FUDGE: (from Patty Polley)

2Cup sugar, 2/3 cup milk, 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup marshmallow fluff, 1 tsp vanilla

Cook sugar adn milk to soft ball stage (240*). Add other ingredients. Mix well and pour into a 9 x 9 buttered pan.

Cool and cut in squares.

Naomi "Ruth" Belden Rothrock died September 27, 2012 at the Meadowood Health Pavilion. She was 97. Ruth was born October 12, 1914 in Louisville, KY, the second child of Clarence E. and Margaret (Chambers) Belden. She married Elmer T. Rothrock Feb. 5, 1930 in White Cloud, IN with her pastor father presiding.

Ruth was a long time member of Clear Creek Christian Church, where she taught Junior Sunday School for many years. She also began a women's bible study and wrote its curriculum. She was involved in service groups that made quilts, comforts and meals for families that had suffered hardship.

She learned to cook and sew at an early age and made clothing for her sons and daughter and later for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She crocheted sweaters, caps and made blankets for family and donated many of her works to the Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Ruth did sewing and alterations for many people and provided babysitting. Her home was the neighborhood gathering place for children.

She always welcomed family, friends and those with no family to a feast of her making at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Christmas found her making many pounds and multiple varieties of homemade candy. Visitors never left empty handed.

Ruth was known to be there to assist and comfort others in need.

She is survived by one brother, Elmer Delos Belden and wife Nancy of New Albany, IN; three sons, Elmer "LeRoy" Rothrock of Bloomington, IN, Marvin Phillip Rothrock of Fayetteville, NC, Larry Gene Rothrock and wife Lena of Pine Bluff, AR; her foster children, Orville "Lee" Palmer and wife Carolyn of Gosport, IN, Lucille "Lucy" Palmer Palko and husband Dan of Spencer, IN and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Elmer who died in 1988, one son Carl Wayne Rothrock who died in 2007, one great-great grandson Nathan Allen Martin who died in 2006, her parents, four brothers, three sisters and three daughter in laws.
